Michael D. Penner Institute on ESG

Michael D. Penner Institute on ESG Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Issues brings together Université de Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal and other University Institutions to promote better understanding, support education and research on ESG issues.

Observatory

Within the Institute, the Scotiabank Sustainable Development Innovations Observatory supports research into finance and business innovations that help move towards a more sustainable economic future.

Michael D. Penner Institute on ESG Issues is an interdisciplinary crossroads that brings together the expertise of faculty, researchers, students and practitioners from the Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal, external organizations and civil society.

Mission

The mission of the Michael D. Penner Institute on ESG issues is to:

1. Support interdisciplinary and critical research of ESG issues, their regulation and implementation, and the impact of practices incorporating them.

2. Train students from the three partner universities and practitioners with a interdisciplinary understanding of ESG issues;

3. Create opportunities for exchange between researchers and the worlds of finance, business and civil society.

Scotiabank Sustainable Development Innovations Observatory studies and disseminates innovations that support achieving one or more of the 17 sustainable development goals proposed by the United Nations.

The Advisory Committee of the Michael D. Penner Institute is co-chaired by Charles Emond, President and CEO of CDPQ, and Michael D. Penner, Chairman of Partners Group Canada. Other committee members are Université de Montréal Rector Daniel Jutras and Polytechnique Montréal President Maud Cohen.
