Research Axes

Faced with the environmental, social, and governance challenges that are transforming our societies, the Penner Institute brings together a community of multidisciplinary researchers around four strategic research areas. Our approach aims not only to better understand these complex issues but also to develop concrete solutions to support organisations in their transition to more sustainable and responsible practices.

1. ESG issues

What are the environmental (pollution, climate change, etc.), social (human and workers’ rights, EDI, AI, etc.), and governance (corruption, development of mission-driven companies, etc.) issues that organizations need to consider? How do these issues interact with each other?

2. Social innovations

What social innovations promote one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals? Who are the actors that make them possible? What factors promote or hinder their sustainability?

3. Regulation for ESG

What are the standards, whether governmental or non-governmental, that support the integration of ESG issues? What are the effects of these standards? Conversely, what effect does ESG practice have on regulation? How can AI support ESG regulation?

4. Implementation of ESG

Research on ESG disclosure and integration practices in organizations, such as the development of better ESG assessment indicators (using artificial intelligence) or the implementation of social innovations.

5. L'impact de l'ESG

What are the impacts of regulations, innovations, or the integration of ESG criteria in organisations on environmental, social, and governance issues themselves? What are the best ways to assess these impacts?
